Gender and Incarceration

Prison, or in crude terminology, neo-slavery, affects everyone differently. If you're male, female, white, black, latino, middle eastern, or asian, the negatives are observed in a variety of ways. For example, blacks are racially profiled to be the largest population in prison. Wives of men who are in prison are left alone to take care of the children as single mothers. Those who are in poverty are left with nothing for them to return to when they are released from prison.

No matter the effect that new-age prison has on you, here at FromBehindBars we will fight to help your specific case. Intersectionality has always been an important part of how we approach modern issues involving prison.

From Behind Bars is a non-profit organization created to help those who are put into tough situations because of incarceration. We know that many of those in prison wish to start a new life fresh with goals and dreams beyond a small, cramped cell. In order to help, we have gathered support from successful ex-convicts who wish to help those who need a boost. Drawing form the financial resources selflessly gifted to us, we have developed several programs in order to help all sorts of situations including: - Finance counseling for single parents - Trade education (machining/mechanic/electric/plumbing/carpentry) - Food banks for those in poverty - Safe houses for those living in dangerous places Our mission/goal is to help you start over from a place with leverage. Starting a new life in a difficult place with no help feels hopeless, so let us help you!
